When I got my doctorate in psychology from Case Western Reserve, I knew what I’d learned wasn’t enough to reach my professional goals. I didn’t want just to heal people. I wanted to help transform people–help them raise their lives to another level of personal success and contentment. I wasn’t thinking sufficiently out-of-the-box. Something I needed was missing, and I knew I had to find it.

So rather than set up a private practice, I left the States. Learned a couple of languages. Spent a few decades in Europe counseling people of different nationalities and walks of life, and listened to their stories. In the Netherlands I studied under some amazing people. I married a wonderful Dutch therapist and we found we had so much in common we began to work together, and still do. And then I found a tool that unbelievably could provide me with a detailed map of the unique inner geography of each of my clients.

Imagine how excited I was! It was exactly what I’d been looking for! So, after years of becoming proficient in its use, I added astrological charts as starters to my counseling. Ever since, they help me look through the same filters my clients do. They show me, and them, the intricate patterns of energy underlying their behavior.

With such clear pictures of each person as a dynamic whole, I was solving a lifelong dilemma: how to put my finger on the murky, stormy parts of people’s inner lives they themselves couldn’t figure out or grasp clearly enough to describe them to me. Yet disturbingly, suspiciously, they bothered them in the back of their minds, sabotaging their goals. Keeping them from being not only successful, but happy.

With this cool combo of holistic counseling and astrology, our practice began to flourish. To complement to our work, my partner Hans began to paint, and inspired by him, as a hobby, I started to make abstract paintings of these often intricately twisted patterns of energy forces in myself and others. Our hobby led us to exhibitions in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.

And, always somewhat of a poet, I wrote short stories, too, about these inner shapes and secret programs, and published thirteen of them in literary journals. One was awarded Best Metaphysical Fiction of 1999 and published in twenty-five countries. And I expressed how these patterns of our inner lives show up outside of us in my novel set in Amsterdam, The Yogini With A Thousand Eyes.

But none of that compares to what we do now: holistic mentoring using astrology professionally as an insightful tool. It detonates our clients’ awareness. And it helps us design individual, tailor-made interventions, exercises and practices that become the real gamechanger in a person’s life.

It’s such a cool combination.
